hey

I bought this female bp about 6 months ago but she doesn't look like the other blood parrots I have seen since. Mostly due to the lack of hump/angle on the forehead.

What do you think? Is it just another cross or just one fo those things?
They had a huge one in another tank that was about 10" plus and they said she could get that size too. I know it is a female she once laid eggs.
Also any idea what the little black marks are on her side? They come and go but don't seem to be harming her.

Paul, she looks like a blood parrot to me. The black marks are normally nothing to worry about. The will get them sometimes before having eggs but sometimes when stressed or in need of a water change which is not good but will go away with frequent water changes. I find one of mine will get a bit of black when chaised a bit too much by one of the others.

Ah could be stress, I added some more fish recently and made some changes in the tank so that may have upset her. The water is fine so it won't be that.

She is very pretty. She does have a neat shape to her face, but the shape of parrots vary considerably. I have 9 parrots, and they all look completely different from one another. I have one with a big hump on his head, and I have one that looks like yours. I think I also have one of the only white parrots on this site.

The spots on her side are from being tattooed....She had something written on her side long ago, and was probably returned when the writing wore off...Look up "I love you parrots" on an image search on google, and you will see what I mean. Good luck with her, she is pretty.

Yeah I do think the shape is nice, my girlfriend loves this fish. The fish has never been tattooed, as when I got her she was tiny. Also the shop I got her from is very reputable and would never buy that sort of thing.
Did you mean the black marks or the small pinkish ones? If the black they go completely and vary each time I have seen them. She has laid eggs once and as someone said that can cause them?!

Try to take a clearer pic. And the LFS' reputability would not be at stake for taking a fish with a faded tattoo....You could be right, but I have literally seen thousand of parrots, and I would put money on her having a tatoo at some point in her life. Parrots grow insanely slow, so there is almost no telling how old a parrot is based on size.

I will try and take more pics. As for the pet shop? I live on an island 9 by 5 miles in size. We only have 3 shops that sell fish here, and I know the staff really well. They would not buy them as it is cruel.
Grow slowly? She has grown 3 inch easy in 6 months, and was less than 2 inch when I got her.

Yes they grow slow. If she had a spurt AWESOME, but parrots grow slow. If they did not see the tatoo, they did not see it. Take some clearer pics.
