is this possible to keep blood parrots and polys together? what kind of polys would be best if so?

Right now I only have a 55g. No fish....yet. I have AC110 filter. I was thinking 2 blood parrots. and maybe 3 UJ polys. ...so they can pile. Any suggestions? Unfortunately do not have a date on the upgrade yet. Would they be okay in there for a year?

I tried it but if you end up with a pair, they will defend a portion of the tank and attack bichirs that get in their turf.

I gave mine away to a friend.

Thanks for letting me know! I've heard a few people here recommend not doing it. Appreciate hearing your experience with them. I'm still looking for something to float/swim around that is colorful and poly friendly :)

Yep parrots are fighters. My pair of parrots I got from my friend would defend their corner against a bass 3x their size. I doubt parrots are poly friendly fish. I recommend datnoid.

Do you want cichlids for sure? Or just something colorful?

And what's your upgrade plan again (what size)?
just something colorful. I would like to do a 180 when I get my own place again, but i don't know when that's going to happen due to funds and maybe moving for grad school. Although, I still want to get a poly in the meantime. Not sure if that's the best move though with the current tank size. All I know is I have an empty tank and I love polys. Might be able to convince my parents to let me upgrade to a 75 or 90 in the meantime. but no guarantee of that. I know i've brought this up a bajillion times, just can't decide what to put in the tank besides fish that will grow 2.5 feet. haha

Well, those Heterospilus are great, and very slow growers, and herbivores so would be a good match. If they're still at COTA you could get 10 tiny ones and then sell off the ones you don't want to keep by the end of it.

I'll think on it more. It's hard without a definite upgrade plan. We could give you ideas for 55 gallon fish and you could sell eventually when you upgrade...

I absolutely agree. Cause I don't want the poly to be uncomfortable. Sorry for bringing this up so much. My orders/tank stuff kept getting messed up, so it makes sense for me to start questioning everyrhing. Appreciate the advice
