Hey all, I was wondering is it going to be safe ( won't affect the water ), when I feed bloodworms to my rays and some of them gets pulled in the current and my HOB catches them and end up going into the filter?
Thanks

I'm planning to clean filter media, once a month.

that what it's made for. just do a good cleaning on the hob.

could cause ammonia levels to rise till the BB get cought up with the extras "waste"
turning off filters is a good idea and it cuts down on wasted food

even once the filters get use to the extra waste they then produce more nitrite which means you need to do more waterchanges

Dang it....I'll clean it right now then...Mind as well turn off all filters when feeding then huh?

turning them off is not going to hurt anything as long as you remember to turn them back on...
if your filters syphon themselves halfdry (aquaclears do this) when turned off be sure to break the syphon and top them off with tank water to keep the bb alive

Will do, thanks guys.

at first, i noticed in my ac110's when i had rays and was giving blackworms that alot of them managed to stay alive even tho in the filter. when i would pull the sponge once a week i would still see some moving around as i rinsed thefoam in the sink

regardless however, their still producing waste if their alive or dead, which is an added stresss on the tank, even if not by much.

turn your filters off for 5 mins while you feed. my rays used to devour their worms pretty fast, and any that are left after 5 mins or so, should have themselves burried in the substrate by then for the rays to forage on later and wont get sucked into your filter

Thanks! Only bad part is that I don't have any substrate in that tank.
