turning them off is not going to hurt anything as long as you remember to turn them back on...
if your filters syphon themselves halfdry (aquaclears do this) when turned off be sure to break the syphon and top them off with tank water to keep the bb alive

If you don't already have a couple bubble walls running, I would be sure to get them going and keep them running even when you turn off your filters while feeding. This is so that in case an emergency occurs during the five minutes the filters are off, and you forget to turn your filters back on, hopefully when you do remember, you won't come back to dead fish.
