keep us updated!!! very interesting...

Great photos by the way. Pic 1, if it was the right way up, could be a potm....love the way the sev's red eye is shining in the gloom.

both those fish appear female to me. both have egg tubes extended in your pics. look closely.
I agree. Male cichlids don't have such thick vents. Both the Severum and Acara show female tubes. Female-female pairs in cichlids are not uncommon.

it may be hook shaped true, but it is a extended egg tube. i've seen all sorts of different shaped ones from just my own observations of my fishes. which would seem very limited to cichlids species as a whole. i'm going to still agree with MerCrenVie on this one.

you guys might be right, just to me it appears to be a female dropping eggs. even my huge males wile breeding don't show something that big, and "hollow" looking tube. more hard spiky slightly curved like, haha...

Regardless of the sexes, personally I wouldn't be suprised if they are both female, the eggs are gone.

Most of them turned bright white, which as far as I know means they were unfertile, and after getting home from a day trip picking up the new tank (:D), they're mostly gone and aren't being defended at all.

Good thing I say, I'd prefer things to be peaceful ;)

the severum is definatly a male the severums tube isnt big enough to be female(by the way both male and females have tubes,But they are different shape and sizes)....look closely:popcorn:
