Blue acara tankmates in 90 gallon tank & breeding advice wanted!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It started out as the girlfriends' goldfish tank, but the danios she bought killed everything in the tank. Each other and their Molly tankmates. After they started going after my loaches, I rehomed the remained 3 real quick. LOL

The new 90 gallon has light tan sand. The loaches will really appreciate it more.

I was able to identify mine by the colour of the tail fin. the male had silver fin and female had orange. Not sure if that's true but it happened be it for me. But at 2" I don't think so. But he'll grow quick that's for sure. Mine went from 2"-6" in 5 months.

I need to spark up my fish life

Well in 2-3 weeks, the acara will have a lot more room. :) I had to postpone taking the tetras to the LFS today, but if one of the 3-4 1.5" firemouths are still there, I will probably be picking one up.

Well not being able to take the tetras to the LFS cost me a neon tonight. I was reading that blue acara and green terrors can be confused when young, so I went to look for blue acara specific markings and I caught him holding onto the dead neon. He gobbled it up pretty fast, head first. Cool to watch, but I feel bad for the neon.

BAM! told you :P hopefully you aren't too sad. Yea they are quite confused but you can tell by the lack of colour on the blue acaras and the shape. Yours is def not a green terror.

Not really upset over it. It was a neon. A $1 fish. I wish it didn't have to be fish food, but nature happens. The others will be saved tomorrow afternoon. I think I am going to scratch the firemouth idea and go with one of the more, peaceful cichlid set ups I can.

1 blue acara
2 geophagus tapajos
3-4 Bolivian rams
6 angelicus loaches
1 Siamese algae eater
10 Dennison barbs

The geos and the acara get to be about 6 inches, but are usually peacefully for cichlids. The Bolivians may breed, but they are small and I doubt they will cause any problems. If so, I will let them have the 20 gallon to themselves.
