Blue Acara

I had a huge 6" male Blue acara, but it got pop eye and died, even though it wasn't bullied and water quality was perfect.

i have 3 i bought 1 it was my 2nd cichlid i bought i 1 day haha 1firemouth from a shop in liverpool and then a blue acara in widnes and then another firemouth from another shop in liverpool, here we get them quite often, but the other 2 are s**t compared to the first 1 i bought and both of the crappy 1s are sick but iam getting some more to find a nice female for my male. ps these pics dont do him justice

nice how bigs yours, mines pushing 5inch hes a beast does yours sometimes go completly black on the body and show the spangles through, mine is doing it more often

davidefc, it's about 5". It hasn't grown any larger in the past 6 months so i'm thinking it's topped out. It never goes completely black. Although it's stripes get very dark when it's showing dominance.

mines still growing got him about 3-4months ago and he was about 2-3inch

I've never seen a Blue Acara near me. Although I suspect they could eat feeders at 3.5-4"

at 4 inches it could easily take guppies or rosy reds..

The gold saum above doesnt seem to have great colouring.

These aren't gold saums, they are Blue Acara's. They are from the same family of cichlids as the Saum. Blue Acara goes by the scientific name Aequidens pulcher, Saum goes by the name of Aequidens sp. Gold Saum.
