Looks like a Saum to me.
BTW really nice looking tank!

Orange trim on the dorsal is the classic coloration, but I believe some can have a whitish coloration. There are other indicators that differentiate a blue acara from other acara species...

My blue acaras had a slight orange edge on their fins when I had them.

Either way, congrats on the fry! Once mine are a few weeks old, I usually supplement the brine with shaved frozen bloodworms (I take out a chunk and shave it over the tank with an open pair of scissors) and crushed pellets. They start to grow really fast once you get them eating a variety, especially if you do daily water changes.

Alf Stalsberg says mine is a Andinoacara Latifrons also known as a Platinum Acara.

Alf Stalsberg would know. I've read a lot of the newish stuff he's been doing, but haven't committed it to memory yet. So according to him Aequidens is no longer the correct genus?

Looks that way.

The whole aequidens/andinoacara genus is a mess... most of the fish in there have been waiting to be reclassified for long time, and many don't even have a name. As far as I know the "Blue Acara" with orange and the one with white edges are the same fish, they just come from different places. (One from Venezuela and the other from Colombia???).

The truth is there's really no way to know for sure. But the common "Blue Acara" sold in most stores is the one with orange edges.

Here's an article with pictures and descriptions of several members of the genus... you'll notice that many of them are very very similar... I wouldn't be surprised if the so-called Blue Acara that we get over here is actually a mix of different fish.
