not to rip off the hobbyist, its to pass them thru certain shipping areas since it carry's a different name.

Yes, Black aros are illegal to import from South America so when they get to 6-8" they call them "Blue arowanas" And ship them out.

When did that happen? I've found a few places that say they can get them in December when they come in season. In all my searching for info on the species and importers I've never read or been told that blacks are Illegal only Asian aro's.

Nah Illegal to import from South America. Meaning South American Exporters cannot export these fish when babies(under 6") because they still have the black coloration. When they hit 6-8" when they can only be imported they are imported under the name "Blue" Arowana so they can get them out of south america without being caught with Black Arowanas.;)

I agree with the man above.

Last black aro I saw around here was like 13" an the LFS was selling them for like 250.00

yea i saw them at aquatic warehouse sorry for the late reply.. and when i saw these black aros in the tank right next to it was a dead black aro

i was led to beleive that black aros are illegal to export out of brazil so they are caught in the bordering countries like columbia, although the same species they tend to have a slightly bluer hue to them.
i also heard they are caught around the same area as uaru fernandies.
