Back in the 80's there were rumors of food that could change the sex of a fish because the hormones were so potent in the food. I never personally saw that food but i did have quite a few fish that lost most of the color after a few months. remember "pretty" fish sell and plain fish tend to stay in the tank. Knowing what the fish should look like is a big plus.
