Not illegal if they live here anyway.
It's a native fish.

Yes it is illegal, no matter if its native or not. Beside it would be illegal aquarium fish release.

"Blue" channel catfish is the name and is seperate from the "blue" catfish species. I've routinely caught these fish over three feet, and while they'd be smaller in captivity, they still get quite large. I've noticed that in aquariums that were not extremely large and filled with numerous fish, these catfish tend to be extremely skittish. My best success with these in in small ponds.

Illegal or not is not the point, he gets to about 2 feet. That's the info I was looking for. I bought him with the understanding that he only got to about 2 feet in an aquarium, but since he's a year and a half old and almost 2 foot already, I was getting concerned.
Looks like I am going to be keeping him. Which I like the idea of.

Thats "average" size for aquarium channel catfish, however it doesnt stopping them from quit the grow more.

I fish for these in the red river here and they top out at 30-35 lbs putting them at 36-40 in. Cabela's in grandforks, nd has soom in a tank that are 30 lbs. What is the deal with calling them blue channel cats as you can sex them by color blues are male and the browner one's are female.

According to a site I found on Florida's fish laws and such, it defines the offspring of Blues and Channels that breed as Blue Channel Cats.
Not as nearly as hefty as the true Blues.

I've also decided to build a wood tank pond-ish type thing on my porch.
The whole discussion was actually because I didn't believe that the apt. complex I live in would allow me to do this.
I talked to them today and apparently there is no issue with it. They just don't want me to build something like that INSIDE, as it would buckle the floor. THAT would be bad.
So 2 1/2 feet... 3 feet... what ever. I'm cool now.
I was just kinda angry that I may have to get rid of Flippy.
Living by myself now, my only hope is that he doesn't start speaking to me (especially if he happens to sound like Don Knotts):screwy::screwy::screwy::screwy:

Well did you bought your "blue" channel catfish from your LFS? If so, they just made up that name "blue channel" which is really normal channel catfish. Your catfish is normal channel catfish, not hybrids between blues and channel catfish.

Lucky you dont plan to release your catfish in the pond if he turn out hes hybrid which can endangered to the pure lines.

Blue cats and channel cats live together in a large part of the U.S. They don't hybridize. All catfish in stores listed as blue channel cats are nothing but regular channel cats.
