So in one of my old posts i mentioned one of my LFS selling "Blue Convicts" and i asked if they were dyed or not....I got 2 replies one saying they were and one saying they weren't....I also asked the manager if they were dyed and she simply said...no there are actually convicts that are blue in the wild.

well after literally sitting in front of the tank for a good hour and a half today i notice that the blue seems to come and go just like when a fish stresses out loses its color then comes back again when its comfortable....it really showed though when she was feeding them....so does that mean they aren't dyed?

these guys really have a nice blue color to them and i was thinking how nice it'd be to have one to grow out.....but i also dont like/support dyed fish due to its cruelty and large numbers of fish lost.

So if anyone could help me out or maybe know something about these "Blue Convicts" (if thats what they actually are) I'd really appreciate the info :D.

ill try to get a picture of it and post it up first thing tomorrow morning when the store opens.

They are probably honduran red points. They look just like convicts but have a lot of blue. They tend to loose some of it as they age.

The females stay a nice blue color, but the males loose a good bit of it. They still look blue, if that's what they are, just not as blue as when then are subadults.

Yep, wild convicts have blue where the white usually is. I think it has something to do with water and diet, but may be wrong. A fair percentage is lost as the fish ages, but it will always have that blue sheen/tinge.

I saw these at a LFS too. WHen I bought my convict I noticed it had a lot of blue on the fins and belly, not really any on the body. I thought this was weird. I have a cell phone pic of mine somewhere. You cant really see the blue on its belly, but its there when you see it in person.

there are prolly hoduran red points. they have a very bright blue sheen to them when they are small. the pic above is a reg con. i have 4 male convicts 4-5inches that have a lot of blue on there tails but as far as there bodies go there plain ol convicts.
