Are blue convicts close enough to pinks and blacks to breed?

I recently got some blue convicts but the one breeding pair died in some late cold weather (outdoor breeding tanks). I have since moved my blues inside with my pinks and blacks. (They are all in their own tanks.) I have three blue females and one blue male. The male is either *** or a female without orange spots :irked: because he has no interest in the females. They are all 1.5-2 inches so they should be breeding or at least be interested. At this point I am considering sending the male to gigolo school. I have extra pink males so I was thinking of mixing them if they will do the deed. Also, are blues a hybrid or just a color morph? I'm just wondering so I know what to expect with the genetics.

Thanks

I thought Blu Convicts were honduran redpoints... and i thought that honduran redpoints were basically nice colored convicts... so i think they should be able to get along and breed.. not sure though just my...............you got it $ .02

Yep, they are. That is what is throwing me off too. I can't find a scientific name for them so I have no idea if they are the same animal as regular convicts :nilly:

Thanks for the response.

i think they are just line bred convicts. kinda like fancy guppies as opposed to wild ones.

Blue cons are not necessarily HRP's.
Cryptoheros sp. "Honduran Red Point" were named as such just so that they would not be called "blue convicts", not wanting them confused with C. nigrofasciatus since they have not yet been classified as a variation of C. nigrofasciatus or a species of their own.
There are naturally occuring variants of cons that have a lot of blue coloration and even red coloration in the fins, much like that of HRP's.
If you got yours as "blue convicts" they're either cons, C. nigrofasciatus, or quite possibly con x HRP hybrids.

Thanks for the info guys. That is what I needed to know. They were sold to me as Honduran Redpoints but Blue Convicts was easier to remember. Now I need to find out if they are really HRP's or hybrids (lights are out right now and it is 1am). I have noticed that their stripes and mouths are different from black cons.

These are a few of mine. Got them from a good source, so I'm almost positive they are pure.

Wow, nice fish! Mine have to be hybrids. On their best day, their blue is only half as nice as yours.
