I've had a blue crayfish for about 4 months. She's in a community tank with several knife fish and a baby senegal. She's the only cray that I have. I noticed today that she's carrying eggs under her tail. How, when I have no male to fertilize the eggs. I've heard that crayfish can self produce. Is that true? Maybe the eggs are not fertile since I have no male. Maybe she's going through the motions.

Blue crayfish need a male. The cray fish that can self produce is the marbled crayfish although they actually clone themselves not rlly reproduce. I say u shld fins a male

so the eggs are infertile, right?

i agree. i assume that females will produce eggs and go through the motions of reproduction, if no male is present to actually fertilize them. it will be interesting to see how long she carries infertile eggs, because i don't have a male. thanks.

anytime

What species is it. You sure it's not a blue mammorkreb? How blue is it? Can we see a picture?
I've never had my females prduce unfertilized eggs.

Maybe she snuck out one night without your permission and had a date with her secret boyfriend.

yeah we need pics. this is very odd. possible she mated a long time ago and has been storing sperm? dont think they can do that though. hmm. very odd. need pics though

If its on the tail it is fertilized. Some crays can retain sperm from previous breeding. If they werent fertiized you wouldnt even see eggs on a tail. Get ready for baby crays.
