I just got my tank set up and cycled and got a tiny baby cray fish he tends to hide allot underneath my rocks and doesn't venture out much but when in the morning i find his sinking pellets are gone so im assuming hes more active during the night? Or is it the temp there's no heater in it right now.

Crayfish are nocturnal, so you'll see them very active at night. However, if you set up certain feeding patterns and stick with them, you can get them to be more active during the day than they'd normally be. For example, I feed mine once in the morning and once in the evening, before dusk, so I see everyone out and about looking for their breakfast or dinner during the light now. They're still mostly active at night, but at least I see them during the light sometimes lol.
Also, the two most commonly sold "blue crayfish" come from warm climates naturally, so a cooler tank may be causing them to be less active than they'd normally be.

i got mine as a baby a couple months ago at less than an inch and she is now 3-3 1/2in (not including the claws or antenna) and never hides day or night. She just walks all over the place searching for food.
I have had several crawdads and none of them have even starved(they eat literally anything they can get their claws on) and the only reason i ever lost any was from they being eaten or by crawling up the airline and out of the tank.
I don't think the heat has much to do with it either. I once, accidentally, threw two crawdads into a full tank of unpurified water because what i thought was de-chlore turned out to be ph up! but they were just fine and lived for a long time afterwords (till the previously mention eating occured).
After yours is in there a little longer im sure it will be more. you might consider position his hiding places so you can see him in them or even taking a few away.

OK i will post pics. I found that the rocks did no sit flat with the gravel i pushed them in so he cant hide underneath them or should i put them back? just drop some sinking food into the tank. they'll definately find it and eat it. unless theres other bottom dwellers competing for food.
Ok well i finally got my sis to borrow her camera. I had to take the rocks out to take his picture. No heater yet but it should be here today.

Aww, cute Cherax quad. ^_^ One of my favorite species, they have a lot of personality and spunk! (but these will definitely need heaters, they need the water in the 70's most of the time and once every couple of months it should be brought up to 80)
