Blue Dempseys Dropping Like Flys - - HELP ME!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
FSC, I have to agree with the no water change policy. I tend to want to think that putting new water in right now would be bad, the water in there now has hardly gotten dirty. I might have understated the size, they are 1-2" so shrimp/worms are too small, but they have all been eating heartily from my flakes. I've still got 5, wish me luck.

How much garlic? I've used garlic with reptiles but never fish, how much is a good amount? I feed flakes, and I have plenty of garlic powder. . . how does this work?

I have heard of people adding their own garlic but never tried it myself. New Life Spectrum brand makes a food called Thera which is very good for parasites in my experience.

Here is a link to their full product line you are looking for the one with the big blue tang labeled "Thera"

I like all their products give them a shot

I hope this helps and again good luck

I have tried raising these little guys 3 times previously. The first one got to about 6-7 inches but when he was about 1 inch one eye became blind and he started to swim crooked over the years, which curved his spine so badly that I had to put him down.

The next 3 all died at 3'. None of the other fish in the tank got sick and the water was fine.

Last was a 3 incher in my 220 with clown loaches, bala sharks, rainbow cichlids, syno cats, and a royal pleco. Again, he just died and noone else got sick (one clown loach managed to get sucked up the filter though  .

Now I'm at my final shot at raising and eventually breeding blues. I have 4 I got from Rapps along with 8 Hon. Red-Points. So far they are 1 1/2" and eating like pigs.

Well, it's good to know I'm not the only one having trouble with these guys. I had myself thinking. . . they're dempseys. . . I must be a ****head if I'm killing off dempseys. It's good to know that even a small survival rate is a good survival rate. I don't feel like such a newbie now. I've still got 4, of my original 6. They're all eating like pigs still so I'm hopeful. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks for all your advice. . . starting garlic food today.

They will continue to die unless you put them in their own tank. Good luck this time.
