EBJD in general are weaker, less aggressive and more prone to diseases at a young age than the regular JDs, in fact many people here have chosen not to keep em anymore because they can't deal with raising a fish for months and having it die suddenly for no reason. Yes, there's a lot of success stories, you might get one and raise it successfully without even noticing a difference, but many other people have had bad experiences with them... "prone to diseases" doesn't mean all of them get sick or die, it just means you're at a greater risk of encountering some kind of problem when keeping these instead of the regular fish.

If they were perfectly normal and competitive they would be found in the wild living alongside common JDs, but they're not.
my 7" EBJD is mean....

So far I have had my ebjd.s for two months and love them.
One isd 2.5" and the other is 3.5"
The big one holds its own in a tank with several other central/south American cichlids ranging from 4-7"

I'm trying to locate a few good EBJD for a friend of mine here in Florida (PM me). I wouldn't bother with them personally due to the tons of bad reports of constant illness and sudden deaths that I read about them. Paying $50-$80 for a 2"-3" fish that is widely known to suddenly die isn't for me. I do occasionally find them for $10 each at Pet Supermarket. But I'm pretty sure these are not quality specimens and probably have a much greater chance of dying young and fast. Feel free to educate me if I'm wrong though.

i got 6 over a yr a go they were under a half inch never had a problem except fighting with each other temp 81 weekley water changes 50 to 75%
