Oleoleole,
sorry, didnt really get your point....care to explain more ^
anyway what specs u think the emperor in the pics???
Maybe I wrong. But one point that I think is this 'Blue variant' still not shown its true color or 'coloration'.

Last year before I saw your 'Blue variant' pic I found 5 malaysian marulioides in LFS.
Tank of LFS have many fish like your tank sush as giant CK, giant maluius & catfish.
And all of malulioides is black based look like this. LFS sold to me and my friend with special price because no one interested them. After that we share these fish to kept
in other tank, all of them change color to normal malaysian marulioides. All of this is the result of 'Coloration'.
When I saw King-El's Blue variant with a lot of tankmate like that LFS, the first thing that I think is this fish will change color when move to new tank or keep it alone.

Sorry if I'm wrong.

sorry to bring back the issue...
but why always the fish that was more beautiful always died...something to wonder....
just had my 6 flowers marulius being killed by the 5 flowers....sigh...

Yep always happened to me to. My platinum polypterus endlicheri endlicheri died too last years from choking on a clown loach.:(

It's always the rare nice looking fish that dies. However I'm not giving up on my last Blue emperor and any sigh of hazard or danger will be git rid of.

My emperor snakehead never change color to the regular color of emperor snakehead. They used to be in my 180g tank just two of them as I was hoping they are a pair and planning on breeding them, till the electric eel jump in the tank and cause some havoc. I used to have a regular emperor snakehead too that I have kept in a red sand with plenty of tank mates and it turn yellow just like any other regular emperor. Too bad it died due to skin fungus.

Im quite agree with you on this, but to me the biggest contribution to the fish looks will be their genetic factor.
maybe king-el's emperor has stronger black n blue base colour in their genetics. This explain why his Malaysian Emperor didn't change the colour even being in the same tank...

Anyway rite now im conducting some small experiment with my baby marulius...
just placed one baby living alone from the rest....and with same food and same environment ,i want to verify ,will tank mates factor contributes to their looks and colouration...??

So far, after about a week, no changes, except that the one that living alone, look a bit stress and scared , always been hiding and not really interactive compared to the rest.
but still too early to tell....will let u guys know soon and will make a new thread on this too....
