I need help!!! I got a blue eye pleco about 2 weeks ago. He's been doing great in his 75 gallon aquarium ( No other fish or plecos ). The only problem is that BLUEY is only eating the driftwood. I have given him algae waffers ( about 5 times ) but time he never eats it :( . So every morning I have to take out the uneaten piece of waffer. He love cucumber and eats a slice three times a week. Is it okay to feed him the cucumber that often? I tried giving him a piece of lettuce but he doesn't touch that either. I have gotten suggestions of feeding him a slice of apple and zucchini. I was even toold that a piece of shrimp ( once ever two weeks ) is good for him. Please help me solve his strange eating habits :nilly:

He'll be able to survive on driftwood for a while, so no worries yet. Have you tried zuccini yet? My hypans enjoy the "meat" and my royal and gn enjoy the skin. Try the shrimp if you'd like. My royal eats meat, and he hasn't gotten bloat. I feed meaty foods rarely, though.

Flash thanks for the quick reply :) . I will try zucchini after Thanksgiving; cause all the stores down here in McAllen are all closed. I love BLUEY and want him to have a varitey of foods to enjoy ( so hopefully he will eat more than just a slice of cucumber and driftwood ). I will try zuuchini Friday and then a piece of shrimp ( NutriDiet Shrimp by seachem ). The unique packaging process of NutriDiet™ Shrimp locks in moisture and nutrients making it more palatable and more nutritious than freeze-dried shrimp. ;)

I Agree with flash. My royal loves zucchini, and peas also. My royal will eat lettuce but it took awhile to get him to eat it. Peas are probably his favorite out of everything though.

Wingate thanks for the reply :) . I never heard of peas before. I will try them this weekend ( hopefully BLUEY will be eating more of a variety of foods by new years ) :) . I told my girlfriend its pretty sad when my blue eye pleco eats healthier than I do :(

Mine eats the wood most of the time. He love cucumber and zucchini. If the aros dont eat pieces of shrimp i seen him nibbling on it.

TennisBoi and Rob thanks for the replies :) . Mine was originally feed blackworms. I want to feed him some but there aren't any local fish stores that carry live ones. They say that Blackworms are a pain cause you have to keep them in the fridge in a tupperware container and clean them off once every two days. They say that blackworms can't survive in an aquarium for too long ( I dont want them to die unless BLUEY eats them cause they may spread a disease ). Rob, how often do you feed yours Blackworms ( once a week or every other day )?

Try giving him sweet potato and definately zuccinni. The wood contains a type of bacteria that the pangues use for digestion. So always have some driftwood available to him. Keep putting the wafers in sooner or later he will recognize it as food. Try the HBH soft brand.

Allan thanks for the reply. I will definately try the waffers brand. I will give cucumber tonight and then zucchini Saturday night. I always wonder if BLUET gets lonely ( in the 75 gallon aquarium ) or if he loves it ( cause there is nobody else to compete with for space and food ) Hmm makes me wonder
