If I'm not mistaken, a coca-cola bottling plant leached toxic chemicals into their natural habitat and wiped them out completely in the wild, sad thing. but that is one nice pleco! good luck w/the sale!

There is a lfs here in MD selling one for $850.00.
The original collection site was polluted. At that time it was thought that the blue eyed pleco went extinct in the wild. Recently, at least two other collection sites have been discovered. The costs do not reflect the status of the fish, but what collector/supplier is willing to drop the price when they can make a 10X or greater markup? It is unfortunate that this is the case, as (just like the zebra pleco), this would be a fascinating specimen for fishkeepers to own and breed.

I was told that a loacl fish store was talking to some vendors that tried to collect some blue eyes and werent succesful even at the two new sites. Also they told the fish store that by the end of the year they will ban the exportation of blue eyes, just like they recently did to zebras. Thats why I know some sellers that might have one but wont sell to this fact. My dad recently went to Japan on business and talked to one of his associates about fish ( cause my dads friend in Japan is a major fish collector ). He asked my dad if I was willing to sell my pleco for $7,000 I told him No. The guy said good kid he probrally knows that they will be banned from import by end of the year

this sounds like a ploy by exporters to create a buying frenzy since this fish is now in good supply but not in demand. the supply outweighs the demand. It wasnt too long ago that many hobbyists were anxiously waiting for it be available.
