Are they still widely available?

They used to be the most common panaque around here, but I haven't seen them lately. A LFS owner told me today that they are nearly extinct in the while and haven't been available for some time. Is this true?

Thanks for any replies!

They are still around. Althugh in the 6-8 inch rangr and usually around $1000 or more each.

I too remember the days where Royal Plecos and blue eyes were very common and only around $20.

Somehow the royals have stuck in there and it is a happy day to see thr blue eyes out there. I think they are one of the top 5 plecos out there.

Thanks for the answer!

Too bad nobody has been able to get a captive breeding program going...

Yes they are sold on aquabid now and then. They fetch a huge price depending on the size of the fish anywhere of a grande to 2500.

I talked to a friend/LFS owner today and he says he sees them occasionally, $500-600 his price for small/medium fish. Yikes! It wasn't that many years ago he was selling tankfulls for $29.95...

If you're in the market for a blue eye, give me a shout. I regularly bring them in to Canada.

The reason for the sky-high prices is not due to near-extinction, but that they come from areas of rivers in Columbia that are controlled by "unsavoury characters" who've basically made it impossible for fisherman to access. An awesome and very entertaining panaque, for sure.
