well actually all he'd have to reduce is ammonia and nitrite.
Good levels of nitrate are needed to keep the cycle of breaking down ammonia and nitrite.

Actually Jess nitrate is the byproduct of the nitrogen cycle, and while it is considered to be harmless in lower levels it can wreak havoc on a tank when it is too high.
Nitrates are by no way "needed" in a healthy aquarium, and have absolutely nothing to do with the breaking down of ammonia and nitrite, the 'good' bacteria in the tank take care of that.

true walls, by good levels i did mean accurate levels. But if you don't have very low levels of nitrate, it shows something odd is going on..water changes will lower it but not 100% elimate it is just that, a continueing cycle.

I still stand by what I said.
All he'd need to do was reduce the ammonia (or sort that out in the begginin) and the nitrite would sort itself out with time producing nitrate which shows the cycle is complete and the most dangerous substances are gone or at a safe level.

There would be no point continuesly removing all three, more let the water cycle and keep the first two correct, and with the usual water changes, removing nitrate wouldnt be needed.

What are you talking about?

somebody mentioned water quality for snakes and that was why the eyes were blue.

but thats off topic considering its not true so may have to leave it there :)

Water quality for snakes? I thought someone just made a joke about blue fish eyes and someone took it literal lol. Its just a shedding snake. What I'm wondering though is why LC didnt know what a shedding snake looked like because hes had a few.

xD I just hope your not being serious

yeah i hear ya. he shouldda known but at least hes asking.
