blue jack dempsey and red texas

Prices will vary if you can even find a decent adult. There is a guy Rick something that sells adults for $150 or something close to that. You can save money buying a group of small ebjd but you may not end up with any that grow into something decent. My last buy of ebjd I got 12 and I didnt get a single one I thought was good.

The price for an adult Blue Dempsey is too high. I've had a Blue Dempsey for about a year and he went from 1 inch to 5 inches in that time. I keep him in a 90 gallon with zero aggression. He is kept with Congo tetras, Rainbowfish, Zebra Danio and other non aggressive fish. He's always at the front of the glass begging for food and eats everything. My previous two Red Texas stopped at nothing to dominate the aquarium.

The two I purchased from aquasapeonline were good quality IMO. I only had them for a few months and sold them because I moved. I think they are getting better as far as quality goes.. They still have a high mortality rate IMO but it seems like more and more people are getting them to grow out.

In a tank that size, The dempsey would have a better shot of being friendly towards the other fish. The RT is a big gamble. I've seen people keep them in community tanks with polys. The only thing my RT tolerated were polys as well. IMO a quality RT beats an EBJD in looks hands down.

Depends on the EBJD as to how much better they look. If it's not deformed and has good markings on it, I think they look better IMO. Plus, they're not mutts.

OP, I got my EBJD for 35 dollars at 4" from a reputable breeder that brought them to a LFS near me about a year and a half ago. He grew at the same pace as my regular male I used to have. The problem with EBJD are some breeders were irresponsible and crossed BGJD grow outs back with the parent and this created weak and deformed offspring. Find a breeder that has either 2 BGJD's of different bloodlines to produce them or an EBJD and BGJD of different bloodlines. Of course you need to make sure the parent EBJD looks good too. My male is nice, here is proof.

I have to disagree for the most part. It is true that there are no definitive answers in fish keeping, but we can make well educated decisions. Therefore, based on what we know about certain fish we can try to avoid a disaster before it starts.
