Blue LED lighting to relax CLs and bring them out ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Apparently, I thought about getting a few feet of blue LED strip and tape em to the inside of my light bar which is why I started a thread to see if I'm chasing a myth. Since removing my juvie Oscar all but 2 of my CLs stay hid. Read somewhere I could get the CLs to come out with a blue light? Figured if its got any cred the Forum community might be able to de-mythify (I just made that up ?) the solution.

One thing that I particularly like about freshwater - that is not true in salt water - is the natural lighting and colours. CL are magnificent already. I feel that blue light would seem artificial and detract.

Agreed........

So, today after all the questions, threads and discussions and tireless research I place 3- 2” Electra Blue Acara’s in with the Clowns. I no sooner put them in and the clown one at a time came out to see what these little critters were. I left them alone for a few hours and when I got back the clown were coming out and mingling. The bigger clowns would barely come out even to feed, now their out and chasing each other as clown do. I guess Dither fish is what was needed.

I found most blue leds look more disco light than evening night. LEDs in general completely overpower smaller tanks so I usually get a dimmer or "shade off" the sides with cardboard.

My fish definitely relax and go into rest mode with true moonlight . ? The disco blue stuff keeps them wired and active. :hypnotize
