I saw something labeled "blue lobsters" at petco the other day. Are they blue crayfish or are they lobsters that can get big? I've read somewhere that blue lobsters=blue crayfish. How can I tell the difference. Can you keep them with bichers?

I got one from petco about 6 months ago. I love him, vary entertaining. he's molted 6 or 7 times since I got him, and is now about 5 inchs long. Since I got him i've looked for info and found that; crayfish are freshwater and lobsters are salt. the blue color is coused by a missing gene, and there are several kinds of cray this can happen to. So I'm not sure how big mine will get. From what I've read 6-10 inchs maybe? As for tank mates, most of what I've read has described them as killers that will tear apart and eat anything they can get their claws on. My cray is not aggressive at all. He lives with 1 pictis cat 1 placo 2 swordtails 2 needlenose gars(not true gars, but thats what the fish store called them) and 2 perrot fish. He has never hurt any one, except for a frog who was killed and eaten withen 4 hours of being put in the tank. I don't know why mine is not aggressive. Maybe a species thing, maybe personality, maybe just luck. I recommend getting one, mine is the coolest and most entertaining beast in the tank. One word of warning, if there is any way to escape they will find it. Mine has got out(I'm not kidding) 6 or 7 times. he gos as far as he can until he drys out and freezes up. I find him in the morning and throw him back in and he comes back to life. I now use duck tape seal every little crack, and I think I've beat him now.

thanks for the reply. i'm starting to think what you have is the australian blue lobster that can reach a little over a foot! I went back to petco today and they slapped on a new label onto the tank, so i guess they're not "blue lobster" but ustralian blue lobsters that can get huge!!
