My blue lobster is like that to. When she was pregnant, her colors changed to rusty brown, and then back to blue after laying her eggs.

crayfish will eat anything. i keep one in my feeder tank to eat any goldfish that die. they love algea waffers and silversides.

I also keep one in my feeder tank to thin out the herd. I keep convicts as feeders, so it doesn't get overstuffed.

Hi yesterday i went to a LFS and they had "blue lobster" (i know its a crayfish obviously) for sell for $18.00 for 2. They are about 2-3inches big but when i took a closer look at it it was brown all of them was brown so do they change to blue when they get bigger? I couldn't find the scientific name of that species either all they put was "blue lobster" and I didn't have my camera on me so i couldn't take any pics.:headbang2:headbang2

Pretty common for Cherax quadricarinatus [redclaw]to be called blue lobster. The strange thing is that government in USA require crayfish to be called their salt water cousin Lobster. Most species have a common browny color when they are juveniles and then when they moult to sexual maturity, turn to their true color. This means that most crayfish will look ordinary until they are past their advanced juvenile stage. So buying a blue lobster Procambarus allenii will mostly resulting in a brown to red crayfish.

if it was a procambrus alleni (bad spelling) i want to get it SOOOOOOOOOO BAD!! Can i put 2 in a 10 gallon tank provided with 2 hiding places? with a 30 gallon aquaclear filter. and what temperature does it like? And can i feed ADF food or betta food to it?

As a general rule 10 gals per crayfish will do the job. However, the one hide per crayfish does not work, so provide 2 hides per female and at the least 3 per male. For example, if the 10 gal has one male and one female then you would be best with 5 hides. Filtration is never an issue with crayfish as long as the nitrites are kept low and if not salt is used to neutralize. Temp is really a species dependent issue, so knowing that first will help. Any food is just fine in addition to a little natural food, like frozen pea or bean once a week will see your crayfish in great health.
