Hey guys, my girlfriend has had a male and female of these for a few months now and we think we've spotted them getting fresh with eachother - general body rubbing etc.

Basically we want to find out how these breed, from the limited information about these fish on the net we've read that some of the eggs you need to dry out. LFS people have told us some sacrifice themselves to breed blah blah blah.

What we want to know is has anyone bred the blue lyretails and how was it done.

Ive stolen a pic from google to show you which ones we have - ours are too quick to phorograph!

Thanks a lot in advance.

Those F. gardneri eggs don't need drying out. I used spawning mops made of green yarn with a piece of styrofoam as a float. Put the mop in and the next day there should be eggs in it. Remove the eggs and put in a small shallow container with tank water and a little methylene blue or acriflavin to prevent fungus. Keep in a warm area ,75 deg or so. Remove any fungused eggs along the way. Eggs will hatch in 2 weeks. Then feed on baby brine shrimp.

This method works for other killies as well: A. lineatus, australe, striatum, and many others. Not all killie eggs need drying.
