blue moon LED all night?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I keep mine on every night but directed it away from the tank so only a weak glow hits the tank. you can only see it operating when the room is in complete darkness. i did this cause i found it disturbed the fish if it was brighter.

I have been running them for years 24/7. The fish don't care. Two fish have died in the last two years, no other ill effects. The only time I see some of my fish is when the moonlights are on.

I have a couple of Blue LED (comes out more purple) on my 110g that run 24/7. It's still pretty dark, but it just helps me just enough to see what nocturnal shenanigans my fish get into;)

For those with fixtures that have Leds... it maybe too bright or not, but it was in my case and my tig did not like it. so i put some blue painter tape over it and end up with 3 layers of the tape over the leds which give me the right amount for the tig to came out at night like he suppose to.

I have the marineland 36-48" double bright on a 46 gallon and i leave the blue LED's on for a couple hours at night. The last time i feed my fish at night is usually at around 10-11 and i put moonlights on after. I turn them off if im going to watch a movie since the tank is in my room or just turn them off when i go to sleep.

My loaches love it and my big Satanoperca Leucosticta comes out alot mroe.

Your s.leucosticta hides during the day?

He doesnt really hide but he likes to stay in places where the light doesnt hit him directly. In my tank atm, that means in a big PVC pipe. He will go around the tank as well and comes up to eat just fine. But once i turn the moonlights on he pretty much stays swimming the whole time. I thought this was a normal thing for eartheaters, dont they like low-light?

I'm not sure I have 5 and they usually stay out most of the time but they do seem to be more active when the leds are on.

my 2 s. Leucusticta I think are about to breed do you know anything about that? I put a slab of slate in the tank but not sure how to go about it should I take them out or the fry as soon as they are free swimming??

I have absolutely no experience with that man, sorry.

You have more geos than i do so they probably school up better and are more active. I have this guy... Satanoperca LEucosticta
