My sense is a lot of the ramirezi available today aren't the same quality as years ago. Just my supposition, since when I had them 20 years ago I didn't find them to be as delicate or difficult as what I've heard lately.


I agree with this 100% the "new breed" is a far cry from what was available years ago. I have a feeling the use of harmones to get young brightly colored fish as led to fish that are much weaked than what we had. If you can get WC fish go for it, they may not be as brightly colored but they will be a hardier bunch when kept in the correct conditions.
