never use ants because they can and will bite your sally. In wild they eat them but can escape them by digging in mud,etc in the tank the ants are lethal unless you have a horned lizard other than that they are a danger.
Springtails can crawl out but use a reg fine mesh screen cover and they cant escape if you dont use a cover than best not to use them lol earthworms are a win win
Heres another update on the plants. Theres about 3 worms in there, weather he finds them when he is hiding I have no clue

hmmmmmmmm just caught one of these today:Jefferson's Salamander - Ambystoma jeffersonianum and I was gonna feed it to my cichlids but then figured "why?"hes a kool little creature and my daughter now wants to keep him.here's the kicker-I was outside searching for red wigglers/earth worms to start a worm farm for my fish over the winter to eat and ran into the jeffersons salamander and tossed him in with the worms that I am farming-not realizing it ate worms so I dont think my worm farm would do so good with a live salamander living in it as well
I may just let the little guy go since hes pretty kool anyway but since my daughter wants him-and after reading this it may be a kool idea to start a little home for him.should he stay or should he go?gimme the verdict.

lol yes its a pet you never see unless you use corckbark as cover and lift it up to look at them but its the type of herp that for most part your looking at an empty tank .
Some you see more than others but as a whole you dont see them. I myself dont have any here though had them in NY and still loved them.
I agree, great job on letting it go. I found mine in a pool skimmer at a job where it was about 40 degress so I had to take him home 
Been over a year and still ticking, or atleast I think so. I really should dig around and find him to make sure he is still there.

lol yes dig him up see how he is doing if you kept tank moist and feed him as you do imagine he is plump and doing well.
I love them but you look at an empty tank when you own them as they hide non stop . You see sand skinks more than salamanders lol
