Malachite Green/Formalin or Methalyne Blue..

A very common, cheap and effective, but sometimes detrimental medication that alot of Pet Stores use in 'shared' water system to prevent the spread of diseases from newly introduced fish. Great for Ich.

one of the local fish stores tanks ALL have their water with a blue tint, like the fish are being treated for something but i dunno what. Is this normal, if not then what is it/why are they adding it?

Most likely Methylene Blue as Miles mentioned. They either quarantine or treat the fish.

Methylene blue is a very common treatmint as a preventative for fungus.

We use this a lot to "preventative treat" new fish.

It is one of the less potentially harmful drugs and is even used to prevent fungus on developing eggs.
