i have these two bluegills. and one of them repeatedly uses his back fin and clears out all the sand and gravel in this certain area. what is he doin? like hes preparing a nesting bed?
yes sir he is because he is a he .. in the wild the male BG clear's a nest and defend's it during mateing season... here is a pic of mine ,I'am not sure if he is male or female..

Deffinatly possible that he is building a nest. That would be really cool if you get them to breed. I am hoping to breed my dollars when they get old enough. Deffinatly keep me in mind if you get some fry!
CHAD55 you are right I should have said LONG EARED SUNFISH .. but all male sunfish build and defend a nest in order to court the female.. and yes it would be cool to get them to breed andby the look's it mite just happen.. if those fish were both male you would see fighting / one trying to chase the other out of the tank .. good luck..
