Yup!!! Just as i thought, I agree with Oscar, and the other guys looks like a green to me as well, cant tell exactly how big he is, but yes he will eat the minnows eventually, and he also will like blood worms, brine shrimp, etc, Dont waste your money on flake food, but he will eventually take to a good quality pellet. Also will become VERY aggressive, and a beautiful fish. Definitely a small MONSTER. :)

Thanks! So I have an additional question:

Does this fish have to kept in a cold water tank? Can they be healthy at 75 degrees? If they can.. and it will eventually be an aggressive fish- Do you think it could hold its own with cichlids??

Lol.. Just wanted to try something crazy..

75 is fine. Greens are very hardy and don't care too much about temperature, pH, etc. There are some folks here who have kept them with aggressive cichlids.

I've kept greens with some similar sized cichlids, but you have to watch, just as whith any fish mix. Firemouths and the like should make good tankmates. And yes 75 will be a fine temp for the tank.

agree 75 is fine, however the part about a crazy experiment bothers me a little :) You will find that sunfish are similar in many ways and disposition to kinda rowdy chiclids, so if your experiment has somthing to do with 3-4 fish shredding each other im out. Can we have a little more info please ?? Some folks might enjoy this scenario but i find it much better to try to do some research first and look for compatable fish.

I was hoping to have the Sunfish in a 55 gallong tank with a female Green Terror, African Jewel cichlid and a couple of small Africans (socolofi and Acaei).

The 55 is the biggest tank I have so were it not to work out I would probably need to purchase a new tank...

To clarify my previous post a little, sometimes experiments are what we have to do to see if somthing works. But we also have to be ready to make sudden changes if it dont. As an example, I have a 75 gal tank with Obesus Sunfish, Dollar Sunfish, A Warmouth, A lepoard Centopoma, 2- Shadow Bass, a lamprologus compressiceps, 3-4 corys. And NO problems so far. The key i think is they all went in at the same time as small fish, and have grown up together. The tank has lots of driftwood and hiding places, they are kept well fed and there is very little if any serious aggression. Nothing at this point is over 4 inches, and im fully aware that at some point i will have to do some re-housing as the warmouth and shadows will get too large and somebody is gonna be lunch. On the other hand i have no doubt that with that same combination, put in together as grown fish would have meant immediate disaster. So it can be done, but give it some thought. Also, all the fish you mentioned are known Meanies :)
