I kept one in Sacramento tap water (pH 7.6, med hard, low alkalinity) for a couple of years. It grew to about 10" on pellets, flake, etc. Never bred them, though.

I'm in a similar boat with a pair of haitiensis. It's definitely a male and female. They're big fish. Lots of tubes and mouthfighting...but no spawn to date. My male is a couple of inches smaller than the female, which might be the issue.

Anyway, I'd figure out wehat foods they really like...feed them a bunch of that for a couple of weeks... and then do a 90% water change.

Good luck,
Matt

Thanks Matt!

The male likes floating hikari bio gold and the female likes sinking Xtreme, so no fight over food whatsoever. They don't even look at wiggling night crawlers...

Still entertaining the idea of adding a third, large fish to spice up the relationship. I do this to my orangeheads and it works extremely well....thoughts?

Maybe adding another fish behind a egg crate divider... I've found that to have a similar pair bonding effect as adding another fish to the tank without the risk of bloodshed.

Try tearing the worm in half to let the get the smell of it. Sometimes fish don't realize that the worm is food. I also like superworms for conditioning (also tear open to let them get the smell). Another way to powerfeed is to use the next size up pellet.

I'd love to see some spawning pics of those fish!

Thanks. I guess I'll try to slowly lower it.

The male seems to be the problem. The female is ready and willing, but the male ignores her...

I read somewhere that Bocourti like a slightly higher PH. I think it was somewhere around 8 if I'm not mistaken. Mine is in 7.4 and does fine. Oh, and as far as shipping him to you goes, I couldn't do it. He's around 12-13 inches right now and I wouldn't trust myself to ship him to anyone. He's just too big. The last time I tried to net him he broke the net so He's gonna stay put lol.

Here is my 14 inch Bocourti. My ph is around 7.8 and he thriving. He is on hikari gold and loves it.
