Had um both
Bocourti will reach minimum about 14" in 2 years with lots of water changes in a large tank, eats lots of veggies, so it's a manure producing machine, great fish.
Argentea not quite so big, very aggressive, but for a tank by itself or with dithers is perfect, great fish.
If you've got 300 gallons you might be able to do them both.

not even close to a 300 LOL, i will be keeping them in a 90 until they grow to big then i will get my parents to let me have a larger tank, i already own the 4ft tank and i figure a pair will be fine in the 4ft for about a year before i have to upgrade. then i can use the 4ft for a different cichlid pair :P

4ft should be good for a year for bocourti, an argentea could handle it longer.
I had to move my 4 bocourti to a 300 gal rubbermade horse trough, they started to get aggressive with each other at a little over a ft in my 150 gal tank.

My arg is growing at about 1" a month from the looks of things, possibly more.

Pick which fish looks best to you, they both have boring personalities by comparison to other CA's

I just got 5 juvie bocourti from Ken Davis. I have heard bocourti can be more interactive.

I like both, but always have thought of bocourti as a larger accent fish versus argentea being a primary show fish.

As for growth, never yet kept bocourti but the wee lil argentea I have has grown somewhat slowly ... an 1.5" in about 4 months or so. But for the first two months he was being out competed for food by my pikes. Since moving to a divided tank, he has grown more noticably.

i think im going with bocourti, from what ive seen in videos and heard from owners of bocourti, they are pretty interactive fish trying to bite your finger, yet they are pretty peaceful, that is my kind of fish!

i will be buying 6 and letting them pair off natural, then selling all but the nicest looking pair
