I have a biased opinion having to own both. I go with the Argentea which has size, the mother-of -pearl color, as well as the personality which goes for the my large male or the females that are housed in with him. The lone juvenile that I have growing up in the tank with them is about 3 1/2 to 4 inches (only survivor from a prior spawn) and at this point is flaring at its reflection in the glass and has great coloration already (hopefully another male)

OP go with an argentea. remember nuttys tank b4 he changed it up he had plenty of other large ca's with his argentea. he has a 300 you got a 220 thats not to big a difference. I got a argentea, blackbelt, and a synspilum all in a 180. the get along alright for the most part.

i went with bocourti because im not a big fan of a V.A. and you can have a couple. although i admit ive never seen a V.A. in person and im sure pics fail them for the most part as with most fish.

Argentea. Can't beat that purplish sheen they have against the silvery finnage.....

Not all Argentea are bastards, there's a good chance you could fit other larger cichlids with one in a 220. If not, you could always add a school of Thorichthys sp. or some Cryptoheros to liven things up.

Like fitz said, they're full of personality and definitely a fun fish to keep - even if they are alone.

here is a not so good pic of the V.A. the owner now says he is a real butt so it owuld be only him and maybe a few small fish
