Boiling "wild" rocks to make them safe?

I just wanna jump in here and stress the dangers of heating river rocks to the boiling point of water or higher. Even if you dont find it in a river, any smooth, weathered rocks should be given extra caution. They could have a small amount of water trapped in them, which could expand when boiled and cause the rock to dramatically fracture, spraying hot shrapnel (and boiling water from the pot) everywhere. Ive seen it before.

You only need to dip the stones in for like a minute haha you only need to kill whatever is on the outside of the rock not heat the inside to boing point.

I second that. A brief dip in boiling water should kill anything of concern, and a good scrub with a stiff brush should remove problems from the outside. Almost all of my rocks came from a local river and after hassling with boiling a couple of times, I switched to dropping them in a bucket of very hot tap water that I've taken outside, letting it cool, then scrubbing and sun drying them. So far, no issues!
