I saw this and have been more concerned the more i have read about it. This bolsonaro guy seems to be willing to destroy the greatest source of oxygen and species on this planet to line his pockets. For fishkeepers this could lead to the extinction of many species prized in this hobby. It was a large development project that effectively doomed the zebra pleco and also led to its absurdly high price in the hobby. I have personally chosen to boycott everything that comes out of Brazil for the foreseeable future, including fish. I hope that more people will join in doing what they can to protect the biggest source of fish in our hobby as well as the greatest source of biodiversity on our planet and the millions of native people who call it home. Greatest source of oxygen my foot. The true greatest source of oxygen in this world is algae in the ocean.
I get your point and I respect it, I sadly can’t say I share your ideas because if a rare fish comes from Brazil and I love it then I’m going to buy it even if the devil himself was selling it.

Most of the western world has already plundered the planet of natural resources and pumped pollutents into the atmosphere, oceans, etc and got very rich by doing so. We have to be very careful about telling developing countries that they cannot do the same while living a lifestyle that most of the worlds population could only dream of.

While this is a valid point; I think it is awful what most of the world has done to the natural resources of the planet, and I don't think we should readily sacrifice the amazon just to be inclusive. The new trend of politicians coming into power who openly don't give a s--t about the environment is frightening to me, and seems like one of many ways society has been devolving in the past few years. I hope this guy is all bluster, for all of our sake. But I doubt it. Dark things to come IMO.

Everyone should read the article that the OP posted:
Scientists are terrified that Brazil's new president will destroy the 'lungs of the planet'

I'm not sure what the best approach for individuals or our government should be but development of the Amazon as Bolsanaro plans will have grave consequences not just for Brazil but for all of us:

But it's unclear how he'd uphold Brazil's end of that deal while simultaneously cutting down large swaths of the Amazon, which helps keep the world cool.

Bolsonaro has also indicated he plans to eliminate Brazil's Ministry of the Environment, Science magazine reported.

"His reckless plans to industrialize the Amazon in concert with Brazilian and international agribusiness and mining sectors will bring untold destruction to the planet's largest rainforest and the communities who call it home and spell disaster for the global climate," Christian Poirier, the program director of Amazon Watch, said in a statement after Bolsonaro's election.

The development isnt for Brazilian consumption, it is to destroy the amazon and ship the resulting resources to other countries, almost exclusively being the United States and the European Union. The biggest threat to the Amazon right now is the slashing and burning of the rainforest to clear pasture for cattle, whose meat is not consumed by Brazilians but shipped to western countries. The best approach is clear and that is to not buy items that come from Brazil until the government changes its policies.

Your sat in your heated house on a computer, with a fish tank waisting electric and water, preaching to people that they cannot have any of this because there not allowed to distroy the land the same as we have. If the rainforest is the worlds natural resource then the world should pay, pay Brazil more than they would get from cattle production. Pay these countries with great natural resources to protect them, it would cost most of the western world penny's per person per year.

Yes we benefitted from the land, yes we came out much better because of it, but we realized that we are doing more harm then we should do we’re trying to stop it. That’s the difference between us and then. We were smart enough to realize that we had to stop and they’re too stupid to come to that realization. Just because they’re not at that point yet doesn’t mean that we can’t force them to see it and make them accept the fact that they can’t destroy the Amazon rainforest.

Instead of that, why not use brute force to make them stop? Threaten them with violence and have the means to do so.

Look at Brazil per capita compared with the USA, UK, Canada, China. how can we realistically preach to Brazil about being bad to the environment.
