For a 3% solution of Magnesium sulphate, add 1 level tablespoon (15 grams) magnesium sulphate to 500 milliliters of distilled water. Stir, and it's good to go.

Use an eye dropper or pipette to add to pellet food (or any other food that will readily absorb it), and stop dripping water once the pellets become saturated. Use only enough water to saturate the food, with no excess water, so that the water soluble vitamins in the food remain intact. Feed twice a day, for 3-5 days.

I tend to overdo it and keep the treatment for 10 days, give or take, Gavin.

Thanks. She's not feeding, so I treated the entire tank with magnesium sulphate according to the 4grams per litre direction on the box and I'll leave it for 3 days and if things don't improve I'll get metronidazole, which worked for me the last time I had to deal with this bloody protozoan parasite - my La Ceiba freddy female was in terrible shape (motionless on the bottom with clamped fins and bloated belly, not feeding), and after only 3 days of metronidazole treatment (a simple case of dissolving the tablets in tank water; although I did overdose slightly) she began feeding very well. At the moment the male ornatum is fine and his poop is large, thick and black, but I'm treating the entire tank with MgSO4. Will that work as well as infusing food with the stuff? I'm not really keen on force-feeding the female.
 
Upp the temps a tad to increase her methabolsim....
 
Maintain it at 30Cº and see what gives.
 
Magnesium sulphate helps purge the gut in fish (as it does in humans), and the parasites don't like it.
Metronidazole is usually the next step, but because it is used so much (especially in aquaculture as a prophylactic treatment), the parasites are building a tolerance.
 
Hi i have 11 oornatums and i am looking for help plls .I think my male has ick?? Iv tried turning up heat added more salt did not work.i have just put in the blue stuf PLS HELP
