When using bondo on a ply tank do you use the hardener or just the filler?

I used the hardener when I was working on mine, but I don't know what your "supposed" to actually do. If you've never used bondo, prepare just a little bit at a time, I wasted a good bit of bondo by it hardening before I had it where I wanted it.

You MUST use hardener or it will not cure.

For a cup of it you only need like 1" of hardener.
Mix to a uniform colour.

Too much hardener and it will cure when your mixing it.
Keep in mind that the tube of hardener they give you with the bondo is enough to cure the entire can.

Thanks for the input. I decided to follow the directions (what a concept) I saw another tank that looked as tho the bondo was gray where as the bondo I picked up is red when mixed. Then after good input it finally sunk in that there must be different colors of hardener. So I followed the directions to much success.

Thanks all

Hey Bear:

You're quite correct as far as the colors go. I've only seen the colors of hardner for Bondo in Red & Blue. But regardless, as stated in prior posts, the entire tube is designed for use with the entire can of filler. Much success to you with your build.
