I'm an avid reader, mostly fiction but I enjoy reading history books as well. Currently I have two books from my mother which I'm not crazy about "Lady Chatelier's Lover" & "the Winds of War" I couldn't pick up either last night and instead started to re-read Andrew Sinclair's "Anatomy of Terror".

Anyone have some book recommendations? I love reading oddball books, epic fiction tales, I even ventured to read some fantasy like George RR Martin (whom I think is fantastic) and Dan Simmons, I also like zombie/ or horror books, and when I like to torture myself I re-read James Joyce novels which I have a pretty good collection of.

So any books you loved and would like to recommend?

I usually read about 100-150 pages a day but, surprisingly, I very rarely read for entertainment. I do like Clive Cussler (for the history fan in you) and Stuart Woods (for that sultry romance/mystery).

If you're every looking for some good philosophical reads, then I'm your man.

Favorite fiction: "The Alchemist", "The Life of Pi", "Old Man and the Sea".
Favotite Non- Fiction (too many to list, but you may enjoy): "Guns, Germs and Steel" and "Collapse" by Jared Diamond, "People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn, "48 Laws of Power" by Greene.

I agree with flowerpower, anything by Jared Diamond is great. Also ''My war gone by, I miss it so'' By Anthony Loyd is probably the best book Ive ever read.

I'm open, not a fan of of the sultry romance. Give me some good philosophical reads.

And being a sport here are some books I usualy recommend for people.

Finnegan's Wake, James Joyce

House of Leaves, can't remember the author

Trinity, Leon Uris

Fire and Ice Series, George RR. Martin also he short stories are fantastic

Illium, & Olympus, Dan Simmons

Pillars of the Earth, Ken Follet

The Red Tent, Anita Diamant

Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand

I could go on but those are off the top of my head

Thanks guys, now I'm working up a list, I recently ordered "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman, anyone ever read this?

"The Life of Pi"

"Running with Scissors" was insane...

Running with Scissors made me feel better about any of the disfunction in my family.

I just read up on the recommedations and added a bunch to my amazon wish list, mucho gracias.

I would recommend Andrew Sinclairs "Anatomy of Terror" for history readers, it gave me alot of added ammunition for when I play devil's advocate in political and/ or religious discussions, it outlines everyones dirty little secretes through time. One of the main reason's I have always loved reading history books.

Also "Black Mass", if anyone would like to read the true history behind the movie "The Departed"

"Paddy's Lament" Thomas Gallager is also a good read

Brian Lumley has a series out called The Necroscope - horror fiction. Takes an interesting spin on vampires and the paranormal.

I think there are like 18 books in the series now...the first 6 are worth a read.
