If anyone knows French, read "L'etranger" by ALbert Camus.

If anyone wants a decent contemporary read, "The Namesake" by Jhumpa Lahiri. I love her.

You can find a ridiculous number of translated copies of the Stranger. It's funny that you suggested The Stranger and I suggested The Fall. Great minds think alike, I suppose.

All Quite on the Western Front I wasn't a fan of when i read it in highschool but after re-reading it since I changed my mind. Maybe it was because in highschool it was forced and I don't like being told what to do.

i know what you mean. i hate the books i was forced to read lol.

my dad read "The Brothers Karamozov". He spoke very highly of it.

I wasn't a big fan of the Stranger but I probably read it about a decade ago, I might have a different view if I re-read it today

"The Brothers Karamozov", I've heard of but have yet to read

I mentioned before the "The House of Leaves" has anyone else read this?, very cool creepy book.

Also anyone else a fan of George RR. Martin?

I started reading it a long time ago, but I got distracted by school work and never picked it back up. The only thing I remember is: "Creepy"

It's hard to follow at times, but I loved the way he made you actually feel the closterphobia when he crawling through the maze of hell (not sure if you got to that part) with his typing. My girlfriend said she used to put the book in the closet and close the door at night while she was reading it cause it freaked her out so much :)

I read the first A Song of Ice and Fire book by George R.R. Martin, loved it. Unfortunately i don't have time to read much anymore, but I used to read quite a lot. Anyhow, one of the more recent books I've read was :

The Road - Cormack McCarthy

It really is a great post-apocalyptic novel if you can get past McCarthy's odd writing style.

"The Life of Pi"

"Running with Scissors" was insane...

I had to force myself to finish running with scissors. I've been on a Chuck Palahniuk kick lately. Choke and Survivor were good.

I also suggest some of Don Pendleton's stuff for light reading.

The CHERUB series is one of my personal favorites. The Recruit, Class A, Maximum Security...
The list goes on, I think there's about 10 in all.

I liked James Patterson's books as well.
