Check your nitrate level often and change the water regularly to keep your levels as low as possible. You can also add Vitachem to their food. Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for all the responses.... I'm going to be all over this new threat of HITH till it goes away completely as its not too bad as of now.

Before medicating try what everone has said, LOTS OF CLEAN DAILY WATER CHANGES & SALT

I would remove any substrate from the tank, make the bottom bare, you need to keep complete sanitary conditions in the tank, almost like a hospital tank.

Don't be afraid to change as much as 75% of the water daily, as long as you are replacing it with same temp, same water source and using a good dechlor like Prime. You will go thru a lot of salt as you will need to replace it with each water change.

About 15 years ago in my early fish keeping days I got into an OSCAR CRAZE. I started with a 55-gallon-tank and ended up with a 180-gallon in my basement all for OSCARS, lots of them.

My friend's girlfriends father had a really nice red-tiger-oscar, that out grew its 20-gallon-tank.

This fish was beautiful but had serious Hole-in-the-Head. Because I was in OSCAR CRAZE mode I took the fish for free.

I treated it for aprox 2-months in its own 40-gallon-breeder BARE tank. I did massive 90% daily water changes replacing the salt each time, or sometimes every other day depending on how much I fed the fish, it was a very BIG OSCAR.

2-months later the fish looked perfect except the large permanent holes in the head, placed him in my 180-gallon with the oscars and he became the new boss.

I've never had any luck using meds with fish, I've always ended up killing the fish and crashing my filters bacteria.

The driftwood needs to be removed also. The only HITH issues I have ever had were in my tanks with lots of driftwood or ones I got "lazy" with.
