Because they don't get the tiny pieces of shrimps and I hate seeing it floating on the bare bottom.

my friend has her bichir with a synodontis, they never seem to have any issues. there are a lot of choices when it comes to color/patterns with synos as well.

I can't think of anything better than clowns. I try to stay away from bottom dwellers because they take away from bichir space
