I’ve been thinking of adding a bottom dweller to my green terror tank. (1m) (2f)
Maybe something that will also eat eggs or fry to keep spawning in check.
The tank is a 135g 6ft x 18in footprint with a 55g sump.
I have 7 giant danios and three rainbows for my mid/top schoolers, but they hardly make a dent in fry numbers. And the fry grow so quick that it’s such a small window for the schoolers to eat them.

I was reading up on clown loaches. I know philipraposo1982 philipraposo1982 you kept them with your terror, right? I’d love to hear your input on keeping them with gts.
I love their colors and would rehome or get a bigger tank when the time comes.
I haven’t really looked into any other loaches at all.

A ripsaw cat might be an option. Again, it would be moved when it eventually outgrew the current tank. I have yet to really read up on these guys.

I have no interest in any plecos for this tank.

I’m really just drawing a blank after that and need some help. Maybe I’m overlooking a fish that would be a better fit for my tank?
I’d prefer something in a school of 4-6 but would be happy with one nice interesting fish as well.
Here’s a picture of the tank

I will be adding plants to the driftwood and can add more rocks for hiding places if need be too.

Clown Loaches, Pictus Catfish. If you don't care about them hiding Striped Raphael or Spotted. If you want to try a smaller species Corydoras will eat eggs.

I would stay small and go with corys, but I worry that my male would try to eat them and get injured.
I’ll look into those cats. I’d like to have something active though.

I had three pictus in with my terrors...they never got close to the eggs or fry. On top of that I barely ever saw them so they basically just added to the bioload for no benefit. They do look cool when they are out however rare that may be. The only fish that were able to pick off the fry were the Severum and BA tetras. Nothing got close to that nest other than the Male terror...and that usually didn't end well for him. I have no idea what would be able to get rid of the eggs other than an intervention by you

The parents are good protectors. I guess in reality my schoolers did tank the numbers down from 100’s to just 50. But that still leaves me with a lot to sell. That wouldn’t be a problem if I did shipping, but I’m not that brave yet.

Other cichlids will be a no-go :/

Do you guys think clowns will sneak eggs at night while the terrors sleep?

I don't believe clowns are true nocturnal loaches.
No, but being most active in the early morning and evening I’d *hope* they’d get a chance to snack on eggs before the females are onto them. Lol
They are a more attractive option color and activity wise because they aren’t strictly nocturnal.

Or is it just wishful thinking wanting them to eat eggs?
