I saw where you said you might consider a ripsaw catfish but would have to move it when it grew too big. Well instead of an actual ripsaw how about a hybrid? I bought a tiger shovelnose x ripsaw catfish hybrid from Tom Maguire Tom Maguire which according to him only grows to 12 inches and takes several years to do so according to his friends who owned them. I can not verify this information but I trust him.

I really think you'll need to interfere in order to get anything into the nest. With your terrors running the tank there really is nothing to distract the female from being on guard. My pair would always go flare at the Severum to keep him at the other side of the tank. When this happened the tetras would sneak in and grab the free swimmers that were separated from the herd. I did lose three tetras over about 6 months because they weren't able to get away from the female quick enough after getting caught red handed (finned?). But short of me moving the eggs, nothing was getting near those eggs for a snack.

Which tetras were they?

P. Ornatus the bigger cousin of Pictus cats. They get to about a foot long. Mine was an aggressive eater, so I would guess it would eat fry since it would try to attack the SD's as they swam by. Like Pictus do good in a group or can also be a solo fish.20180821_175628.jpg

How about a shovelnose sturgeon growout?
They are supposed to be available in spring from Osage catfisheries

Look into hoplo cats. I have 2 in my 135 and want to get more. They get to be about 6 inches and are out and about more than your average syno or pictus. I really like mine. Can be hard to find but trinsfish.com just got some in.
You can catch them by the hundreds in s. Texas or Florida

fishhead0103666 fishhead0103666 That sounds interesting, but it’s not making sense in my head on how that would make it stay smaller mixing those.
Also not sure I’d come across that exact mix for sale near me since I won’t be ordering online.

Jexnell Jexnell I'll read up on those guys. Do they grow fast? Not sure I dare put anything too small into the tank. I’ll have to grow out whatever I decide to add in a different tank. I just hope I won’t have to keep them separate for too long.

Deadliestviper7 Deadliestviper7 Haha, I’d really love a sturgeon but other then the diamond back they are out of my price range. I can’t drop $300 on one fish. Lol

sevs and sajicas for me sevs and sajicas for me I’ll read up on those too. 6” adult size might mean too long for growing out though. Great for a long term resident though.
