Bottom dweller tankmate for my ATF, need recommendations

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
LOL stingrays would be fantastic but definitely not on the list right now. If I spend a bunch of money on anything, it's on the next giant tank upgrade first. I think I may just wait a few months and see how quickly he grows before I make a decision. If I buy clown loaches now, and he all of a sudden hits 7" in say 3-4 months, and I could have had a shovelnose instead I may have regrets. I'll do the smart thing and hang on for a bit before I buy. I'll have this ATF for the long term, so I need to make a long term decision on the cat as well, since I'm fairly certain it'll just be the 2 of them in the tank besides maybe a small school of dithers at any given time.

So is a lima shovelnose a good fit here, or is my original thought on a larger synodontis a better fit? I would be waiting until he was at least 8-9" for the shovelnose (and it would be a smaller one), so I would think the idea of him being a threat is not on the table at this point.

I think the Lima would probably be a good match for the tiger, especially if you wait till the tiger's 6-7 inches to get a baby Lima. The tiger won't bother the Lima, and if the tiger's bigger, I don't see the Lima bothering the tiger. The Lima will top out at probably less than two feet, so I feel that it will be a great mate for the tiger. :)

I would get a tiguranis or a jureneus cat. BICHIRS! I don't know why they are so overlooked!

Agreed on the bichirs. Good bottom dwelling tankmates.

My next bottom dweller will be a bichir. I'm negotiating on a 6" ornate with superb colors right now!
