Loaches seem to like sand as well, some species will even dig into it to search for food or hide. Cheers Ian

You can get it in black. It's not available here in NZ so I haven't seen it in person http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/ColorQuartz/HomePage/Products/Crystals/ It's used for mixing with epoxy and coating swimming pools, but it's just coloured quartz (sand) We do have black volcanic sand on the local beaches that I've used in a coldwater marine tank before though.
