Raphael cats are the way to go. I keep 3 spotted raph's with my snakeheads for cleanup. Or you could use striped raph's if you prefer that look. They are really tough and fish don't usually attack them because of their spines down the side of the body.

I wonder if a large synodontis might work for you. I kept my synodontis with convict cichlids and it was only problematic when the cichlids bred.
From my experience Clown loaches are quite peaceful, if you want a loach go with a more aggressive loach. Or a Rapheal cat, or smaller Syno cat. I have all 3 in various tanks and they all do quite well.
i would try a bristlenose catfish,they look like pleco,but max size i think is under 8 inches,the ones i have owned in the past have been tough enough to take some abuse
Depending on how big of a tank they are going into?? I currently have a Granulosus catfish, which is the definition of a armored cat. He is one of my favorite fish and the only fish in my tank willing to pick a fight with my 11" Festae!!! He will not take any crap from any of my cichlids, which are all around 10" or so. They get to be about 3', however are really slow growers... I've had mine for 1 year and 9 months and he has grown from 5" when I bought him to about 14" now, which is slow for a large catfish. My old RTC grew that much in three months!!! If your tank can not support a Granulosus, I would get a Rapheal for sure.
Bichir's work very well. Not really the rare species. Get a Dinosaur Bichir(Senegal). My old one lived with a couple oscars, they were messy but that bichir ate everything on the ground.
