Bottom tank crack Opinons

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im not too handy with glass If I do it this would be my first repair with glass. The glass is cracked from corner to almost to the otherside of the tank. I got a few pics sent to me but its taken by a camera phone not the best quality .

just wondering though what silicone would be used to reseal a glass tank? and what would you have to do to make sure its fish safe?

To be completely honest, If you don't have expirence with tank repair or silicone and sealing I wouldn't even touch this tank. Unless you want to do some research to get someone professionally fix it. I'm sure if you reached out to the MFK community someone in your area might be able to help you out with the repair, or point you in the right direction if your heart is still set on getting this tank. Again I believe you said it was 100G - That's alot of water to play with if your seal doesn't take, Myself thats what I would be worried about waking up to find 40G of water on my floor! or worse 100G!

As for silicone go to your LFS or Hardware store and look for just Aquarium Silicone. Make sure you do your research.

Remember you don't learn if you don't make mistakes!! ;)

Good Luck!!

same here.

180g of water in a tank that badly abused and damaged?

you could fix the crack, and get another crack out of the blue from a stress fracture that you didn't see down the road.

taking that tank is a big risk even if you repair the cracks you know about.

how many other times was it dropped?

if it was a 20g tank, maybe.

but 180g??

no thanks.

Yea I decided not too get it. Thats the thing that worries me is 180 gallon of water on my floor!!

exactly - You would buy your 80$ fish tank fix it - Then have to pay your 500-1000 dollar deductable when It leaks and destroys your floor!! Then the Cheap Tank turns into an expensive one!

Don't forget that the bottom is also usually tempered glass I believe.

In this case it doesn't sound like it is because tempered glass breaks into a bunch of small pieces I think.
